With VisitBritain’s ‘4 star gold award’, this charming 300-year-old, Grade II listed, thatched cottage nestles within the pretty, tranquil, part-thatched rural village of Chittlehampton with its village square and welcoming inn. One of a pair, Thatch Cottage is built from stone and cob and restored and equipped to a very high standard. The beautiful surrounding Devon countryside offers thatched cottages, lovely views, quiet villages and so much more within easy reach, including locally, the Shire Horse Centre, the Cobbaton Combat (military) Collection, and Roger Cockram’s pottery and art gallery. Exmoor is nearby with its lovely views, quaint villages, walking, cycling, ponies and zoo. The brilliant Tarka (cycling and walking) Trail, with 30 miles of former railway and cycle hire, runs around the very scenic Taw Estuary and through Barnstable, only 20 minutes away. Also within easy reach are the many superb beaches of the Golden Coast of North Devon, Croyde, Saunton and Woolacombe, for sandcastles and surfing lessons, several excellent golf courses including Highbullen Hotel (3 miles), fishing on the Taw, gardens such as Marwood Hill, RHS Rosemoor and Arlington Court, NT properties and sleepy, unspoilt villages with inns. Highbullen Hotel (3 miles) offers a 20 metre indoor pool and good gym for a low daily fee. The historic town of South Molton is nearby, with its regular markets, Quince Honey Farm, award-winning Corn Dolly tea shop, restaurants, antique shops and swimming pool. Thatch Cottage is in a truly wonderful holiday location for all interests. Shop 300 yards, village inn serving food 200 yards.

Thatch cottage was absolutely beautiful and perfect for our New Year break. As others have said, it was extremely well equipped, very comfortable (especially the sofas!) and spotlessly clean. The cottage was beautiful, very well appointed, in a quiet village. We settled in immediately. The local pub (5 min walk) with good food and real ale is a great asset. Instruction book written with a sense of humour. Travel to the local towns in not onerous. Bideford is lovely well worth doing the town walk. Lots of local seasonal products. This was one of the best properties we have stayed in. Spotless and well equipped and fitted out, this was a great cottage to come home to after a good day out. South Molton, about a 10 minute drive, has plenty of shops (Supermarket close to the centre). June 2011.

It was a beautiful thatch cottage in excellent condition; perfectly clean; with fine furniture, bedding, and seating; wonderful kitchen; and very good toilets, bathroom - all of these excellently equipped.
