With VisitBritain’s ‘4 star gold award’, this charming 300-year-old, Grade II listed, thatched cottage nestles within the half-thatched rural village of Chittlehampton with its village square and welcoming inn. One of a pair, Thatch Cottage is built from stone and cob and restored and equipped to a very high standard. The beautiful surrounding Devon countryside offers thatched cottages, lovely views, quiet villages and so much more within easy reach. Exmoor is nearby with waterfalls, walking, cycling, ponies and zoo. The excellent Tarka Trail for more car-free cycling and walking is 30 miles of former railway, with cycle hire, running around the Taw estuary only 20 minutes away. Also within easy reach are the many superb beaches of the Golden Coast of North Devon, Croyde, Saunton and Woolacombe, for sandcastles and surfing, several excellent golf courses including the championship links course at Saunton, fishing on the Taw, renowned gardens, NT properties and sleepy, unspoilt villages with inns. The historic market town of South Molton, the "gateway to Exmoor", is nearby, with its regular markets, tea shops, restaurants, antique shops and swimming pool. Barnstaple is within easy reach, with its cinema, theatre, pannier market and variety of shops. Highbullen Hotel (3 miles) offers a 20 metre indoor pool and good gym for a low daily fee. Thatch Cottage is in a truly wonderful holiday location for all interests. Shop 300 yards, village inn serving food 200 yards.

  5. The cottage was beautiful, very well appointed, in a quiet village. We settled in immediately. The local pub (5 min walk) with good food and real ale is a great asset. Instruction book written with a sense of humour. Travel to the local towns in not onerous. Bideford is lovely well worth doing the town walk. Lots of local seasonal products.   7. This was one of the best properties we have stayed in. Spotless and well equipped and fitted out, this was a great cottage to come home to after a good day out. South Molton, about a 10 minute drive, has plenty of shops (Supermarket close to the centre). June 2011.

  9. After 20 years of cottage hoildaying 3 times a year, Thatch cottage ranks in the top 3 of all places we have stayed. Superb condition and equipment levels, a credit to the owner and housekeeper - quite location,village and local pub excellent 200yds - this property is very high on our list to re-book - you will not be disappointed.
